Just outside Morell, the harbour at Red Head has long been a centre of economic activity for the community. Its well-protected location also provides easy access to the fishing grounds of the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Like in most harbours on Prince Edward Island, the lobster fishery is king. During the lobster fishery in late spring, boats come and go from the harbour every day loaded down with the day’s catch. At other times of the year, you may even see a giant bluefin tuna being brought ashore.

Once the home of a number of lobster processing plants, the harbour today is the heart of the PEI Mussel industry. Exporting to the world, Morell is the home of PEI Mussel King, who pioneered the commercial farming of PEI mussels. Today, this shellfish is considered a delicacy on menus around the world.
